We Understand

  • What would you do if your child received the devastating news that they were going into palliative cancer care?
  • Who would you turn to?
  • What support would you need to help your child while continuing to support your family?

You may be surprised to hear that there is very little support available if you and your child find yourself in that position. Having walked that lonely path, Eimear and Alan have structured the support provided by Keeley D Foundation to have the greatest impact supporting families with a child in a palliative cancer care.

Financial Support

When parents step away from work commitments to care for their child, families need quick access to financial assistance to cover rent, mortgages or day to day family living expenses.

Practical Home Support

When caring for a child in palliative cancer care, what is important for families is time together. Keeley D Foundation provides practical support for families ranging from cleaning services, meals, shopping deliveries & maintenance repairs, to maximise their family time together. Time together with their loved one is the most precious thing in the world.

Treatment Assistance

Travelling nationally or abroad for treatment can be both unsettling and expensive for families. Keeley D Foundation offers families travel and accommodation assistance to remove the cost burden and to ensure any stay away from home is as comfortable as possible.

Emotional Support

Caring for a child with palliative cancer is scary and lonely. Keeley D Foundation founder Eimear, Keeley’s Mam, makes herself available and provides out of hours emotional support for parents. She knows from her own personal experience that the dark hours of the night are the loneliest for parents in this situation and that availability and support helps parents to carry on, when they are at their lowest.

Care Packages

Finding the courage to keep going during palliative care is tough both for a parent and the child / young adult. Keeley D Foundation provides care packages to try to remind the whole  family unit that they are important, and that we care for their family unit more than they will ever know.

Awareness

Through the Keeley D Foundation Eimear and Alan are strong advocates for raising awareness about supporting those we know navigating grief. Eimear & Alan have spoken publicly regularly about grief and improving the support available for children in a palliative care environment. Additionally raising awareness of the need for greater research into the treatment of DIPG brain tumours is important for the Keeley D Foundation as it has not only impacted Keeley and her familiy, but so many families that the Keeley D Foundation has supported since May 2024.
